So apparently some guy in Kansas donated sperm to a lesbian couple where
the contact point was Craigslist, not a sperm bank, and now that the
couple's split, Kansas wants the guy to pay the custodial parent child
support. And everybody is talking about it as a case in point of the
dangers of donating sperm through not-a-sperm-bank.
Why is nobody talking about it as a case in point of the problems of not
having marriage equality? Because this kid does not have a dad, and it's
ridiculous to try to treat the sperm donor as a dad. This kid has two moms,
and the one that doesn't have custody should retain parental rights and
responsibilities including but not limited to the child support Kansas is
trying to get the sperm donor to pay.
