Supernatural 4x05 Jamie: self-confident
Supernatural. I requested Claire Novak, Pamela Barnes, Lisa Braeden, Mary Campbell Winchester, Jessica Moore.

So much Clairefic is centered around her reactions to the presence of Castiel or the absence of her father. I don't want that. I want Claire and her mother, or Claire and her friends, or Claire on her own. Or Claire leading the new religion that surely sprang up in the wake of 7x01, which, though Castiel-centered, is still something I'm longing to make someone write for me.

Pamela. We see her go from well-adjusted person with sight to well-adjusted person without sight. I want to see the transition. I want to see her reacting to ableist jackasses (preferably not Dean, we got that in canon). I want to see her proactive.

Lisa. She's a mother, she's a significant other, and we heard once in passing she's a yoga teacher. We have lots of fic where she's a mother and a significant other. I want to see the Lisa who's a yoga teacher. I want to see her hobbies, her religious beliefs or lack thereof, who she is when neither Ben nor Dean is on her mind.

Mary. She's a mother, she's a significant other, and she's a hunter. Who is she when none of those is at the forefront? Or give me more Mary-hunting fic, that works too.

Jess. She's a significant other, and for all canon is interested in her, that's all she is. Who is she when Sam's not around?


Supernatural RPF. I asked for Genevieve Cortese Padalecki, Adrianne Palicki, Alona Tal, Cindy Sampson.

Gen or low-rating femslash or high-rating femslash, AU or not, anything is shiny. Maybe Alona and Cindy, or Genevieve and Adrianne, bond over playing love interests to the same guy, or roleplay their characters' interactions. Genevieve/Adrianne sexytimes would make me very happy.

I wish I'd realized RPF was okay for this fest when I was nominating, so I could have nominated Danneel Harris Ackles.


Disney Princesses. I requested Mulan, Esmeralda, Pocahontas, Tiana, Jasmine.

An analysis of the Megaupload indictment from someone who, though not a lawyer, has reason to be Very Familiar with the applicable law. In case anyone I read doesn't already read [personal profile] synecdochic.

Short form is, Megaupload is fucked, but Megaupload was stupid about several key factors, so other file sharing sites are not necessarily fucked. And existing law is perfectly adequate to deal with Megaupload's fuckery; there is no need for SOPA or PIPA.

With the continuing campaigns for Internet-censoring legislation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites such as Megaupload under allegations of piracy and conspiracy, the time has come to take a stand against music, film, and media companies' lobbyists.

The only way is to hit them where it truly hurts.

Their profit margins.

March 2012 is the end of the 1st quarter in economic reports worldwide.

Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy. Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a video game. Do not buy a single book or magazine.

Wait the 4 weeks to buy them in April; see the film later, etc. Holding out for just 4 weeks maximum will leave a gaping hole in media and entertainment companies' profits for the 1st quarter, an economic hit which will be observed by governments worldwide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes.

This action can give a statement of intent:

"We will not tolerate the media industry's lobbying for legislation that will censor the Internet."

Somebody is reading my stories on fanfiction.net. Starting with the really embarrassing early ones. I know this because those are the ones that this person has favorited.

On the bright side, I'm 4K into my 15K minimum for [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang. On the dim side, my Law Office Management homework due tomorrow is not yet done.
Supernatural 1x13 Cassie: courage of her convictions
My friends, I must say to you that we have not made a single gain civil rights without determined legal and nonviolent pressure. Lamentably, it is an historical fact that privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily. Individuals may see the moral light and voluntarily give up their unjust posture; but, as Reinhold Niebuhr has reminded us, groups tend to be more immoral than individuals.

We know through painful experience that freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed. Frankly, I have yet to engage in a direct-action campaign that was "well timed" in the view of those who have not suffered unduly from the disease of segregation. For years now I have heard the word "Wait!" It rings in the ear of every Negro with piercing familiarity. This "Wait" has almost always meant "Never." We must come to see, with one of our distinguished jurists, that "justice too long delayed is justice denied."

Not not not.

...the differences between Supernatural as is and Supernatural if Sam had seen his boyfriend Brady die might be fascinating. I shall have to contemplate.

Make that crazy times with fans, online or off, and all I can think about is the group I was with for two years, three or maybe four if we count before chat.trycanta.com started up, the meetup with the amusement park, the guy I dated, the girl I roomed with and crushed on, and the way the whole damn thing crash-and-burned, in large part due to me screwing up. After crashing my initial try at a college career and being singularly unhelpful with my attempts to launch an actual career, but that was my fault too.

That was going on four years ago. I thought I was over this.

whydoyouneedtoknow, aka Anne Walsh, and [personal profile] damkianna. Both are fabulous authors who hit my big fic kink: MOAR LADIES = MOAR AWESOME.

damkianna avoids killing or otherwise writing out canon female characters—one of her big projects, Flying Blossoms, is a bunch of Five Thingses that are either 'five women X's mother might have been' or 'five things X's mother might have done', and in every instance the mother in question is someone never or rarely seen in Avatar: the Last Airbender. And in Imagine the Ocean and Listen to the Earth, the Avatar Gang is populated by an ever-increasing number of canon female characters. Suki. Yue. There's also a friendly Fire Nation commander OFC, Yin. The central plot point of Imagine/Listen is that Katara is the Avatar; I am dying to see what happens when damkianna gets hold of The Legend of Korra.

Anne makes use of original female characters as well as canon female characters—not that damkianna doesn't, but damkianna's epic doesn't rely on the OFCs the way Anne's epic does. The Dangerverse is named for the OFC who sets everything in motion, Gertrude 'Danger' Granger, Hermione's twenty-years-older sister who has psychic abilities and who marries Remus and with his help kidnaps Harry from his more-abusive-than-canon relatives and frees Sirius from Azkaban so that Sirius can marry OFC #2, Aletha Freeman, Lily's best friend, and with her have a kid, OFC #3, Meghan. Remus, Sirius, Danger, and Aletha collectively raise Harry, Hermione, Meghan, and Draco Black—yes you heard that right; Narcissa gets a Crowning Moment of Awesome into the bargain. And from there the changes just sort of spiral.

Anne and damkianna are the two authors I tried but failed to imitate with my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang last year, and the authors I am trying and hopefully succeeding to imitate with my [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang this year. (It helps that Anne wrote A Widow in Waiting, first of the Chronicles of Glenscar, which is the 'verse I'm crossing with Supernatural, and I have conned Anne into doing beta work for my Big Bang.)

Supernatural 3x11 MYSTERY SPOT. This is the defining episode of Sam in seasons one through five. He goes utterly batshit crazy trying to save Dean, and when he thinks Dean is beyond saving, he shuts down into superhunter mode. I can't really explain my glee over this episode but it is beyond question my favorite of the series.
