May. 21st, 2013 12:58 amI have 524 works archived at AO3. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) (the first thing I posted there) to 524 (the first thing I posted there) (the most recent) [because it is easier for me to find the one you're asking for that way], and I'll tell you three things I currently like about it.

Day Twenty-Three: Favorite female platonic relationship
Britta and Annie. Hands down. I can't put my finger on why, though.

21. What's your favorite thing about Dreamwidth?
I'm not sure the parameters of the question. I'm absolutely in love with 'reply to comments by email', though, it means I can participate in discussions I'm tracking while I'm at work!

Day Twenty-Two: Favorite female character you love but everyone else hates
BELA. She shoulda been around for quite a while longer, she had a lot of potential, still does have if it ever occurs to Carver to bring her back as a demon.

20. Yes, but what are your thoughts on yaoi?
Why is that even a meme? It's just slash based on Japanese-origin media.

May. 18th, 2013 08:47 pmLeave a comment if you want to be on my filter for Angels of the Silences. If you don't have access to my locked entries, I'm probably happy to grant it. Angels is my novel in progress where four sisters, three of whom are nephilim, have to try to stop the apocalypse; I'm taking a lot of story elements from Supernatural and doing them in what I hope is an intersectional feminist manner. To start with, one of my protagonists is a biracial gynosexual genderqueer woman.
Here is the first post on that filter for after any of you who opt in get told you've been added.

Day Twenty-One: Favorite female character screwed over by canon
Anna was going to have Castiel's plotline, I understand. Instead she got sidelined and flambeed.

18. What don't you talk about here, either because it's too personal or because you don't have the energy?
My family. Which is six of one, half dozen the other.

plot points in Angels
May. 16th, 2013 02:21 amReading reactions to SPN 8x23 (note: have not seen anything past "Goodbye Stranger") has breathed new life into my retell-Supernatural-only-feminist-and-in tersectional novel concept.
Only now it's a serial novel. Structured like a season of TV.
I need to plot it out for reals now, but I'm taking a poll: What monsters and/or supernatural beings would you like to see in the tentatively-entitled Angels of the Silences? (Take 'angels' as read.) I'm making no promises, but I need subplots.

Day Nineteen: Favorite non-human female character
Define your terms. If she was human at any point in the series/movie/book, does she still count? Think I'm gonna go with Ruby, though, she was human once but not during the series.

I'm going to go with Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. She was my favorite overall for the longest time, mostly because of her book obsession.

16. What are you glad you did but haven't really had a chance to post about?
Last week the local state park and the state Sierra Club hosted a former chief of a local Native American tribe to talk about the lifestyle of his tribe before the Europeans came. I was particularly struck by how he described catching fish--the older boys would build a not-quite-dam across a stream, something that funneled the fish to a single point that let a single fish through at a time, and the little kids would line up across the stream behind the school and walk downstream throwing pebbles and acorn caps to scare the fish towards the not-dam, so the older boys could catch the fish as they single-filed through the gap in the not-dam, then bring the fish to the older girls for cleaning and cooking. So all the kids knew they had an important role to play in feeding the tribe.

Define 'warrior'. Depending on how one defines the term, either Anna Milton or Jo Harvelle. Though I have a soft spot for Disney's Mulan and Merida.

15. What's your current obsession? What about it captures your imagination?
That would have to be my original fic. Where by 'original' I mostly mean 'retellings of public domain works'. I'm currently banging on a Beauty and the Beast story, there's eight more fairy tales in that Scrivener project in various states of completion, and I have barely begun my perusal of the Child ballads and the stories collected by Joseph Jacobs to find ones to retell. Might hit up Andrew Lang, too, there's one with a transgender hero I SHIT YOU NOT.
What's fascinating me is the same thing that's always fascinated me with fanfiction. Here are the story elements. How do I make them tell my stories?
